Valley views and plantation air, an hour off the highway
Starting at
₹2,500 ₹5,800 per night
Astagiri Homestay is a family-run plantation homestay in Mudigere, Karnataka, on high ground with a valley-facing deck and home-cooked local meals included in the tariff. It sits between Chikmagalur and the Charmadi ghat road, with trek routes leaving from the property — a quiet base for a weekend in the Western Ghats.
Astagiri sits above a valley in Mudigere's plantation belt, on the sort of road that makes you doubt the directions until the last turn. The reward is the view: the ground drops away from the property and does not come back up for a long while.
It is a homestay, run by the family that owns the land. Rooms are simple and clean, the food is local and cooked to order, and the day arranges itself around meals and the weather.
The deck is where guests end up. Coffee in the morning while the valley is still filling with cloud, and again in the evening when the light goes gold and then orange and then, quite quickly, away.
There are trek routes from the property for anyone who wants them, and a campfire most nights for anyone who does not.

Landmark: The turn off the main road is easy to miss — call ahead and the family will talk you in.
The final approach is a steep plantation road. Low-clearance cars manage it, slowly.

Yes, the tariff includes home-cooked local meals. Food is cooked to order around the day rather than served buffet-style, so let the family know your timings and any dietary needs.
About 35 km, roughly an hour by road. From Bengaluru it is around 270 km and six hours via NH75 and Hassan.
Yes — several routes start at or near the property and the family will point you at the one that suits your fitness and the day's weather.
Signal is workable but not strong, and Wi-Fi reaches the main house rather than every room. It is that sort of place, deliberately.
